چکیده

There is a need of structured information for mobile devices. They are small and they have many side applications that creates a hazardous user interfaces. Wireless Application Protocol was trying to place the things in order but the emphasis was on protocol and not on the interface level (it was some how tackled but not realy seriously). Also, we want to have an interface that is portable, deviceless, extensible. An explanation of the therms follows: The term portable is defined as a device that allows the user to easily carry it out or move. The term deviceless interface is the interface between user and an information appliance that has no mechanical interference with the user. Examples can be found in [1], [4], [6] and [7]. The term extensible or expandable is refered as the property of the interface to re-shape itself for different purposes than the ones defined by the propertary. In other words to morph in other interfaces than the ones that has been design. An open interface. (There has been a lot of emphasis on whether an open interface is a good interface, but we are thinking of expandable until some levels and it is not referring on how the user can redesign its interfaece. Also the property reffers to a different concept than the classic approach from User Interfaces of our days.) The results of this reasearch are addressed to the future mobile devices user interfaces.

Interstitial Interfaces for Mobile Media

Mobile devices make ideal personal ambient information systems given their ubiquitous adoption by users and their rich context knowledge of users’ activity. However, we believe that unlike traditional systems, the mobile device acts more as an interstitial information appliance, allowing users to consume relevant information at-a-glance primarily during the interstices between other activities....

Operating Appliances with Mobile Phones - Strengths and Limits of a Universal Interaction Device

Mobile phones are increasingly becoming ubiquitous computational devices that are almost always available, individually adaptable, and nearly universally connectable (using both wide area and short range communication capabilities). Until Star Trek -like speech interfaces are fully developed, mobile phones seem thus poised to become our main devices for interacting with intelligent spaces and s...

What is Appliance Computing?

In this paper, we present an overview of the Appliance Data Services project by defining the term appliance computing, presenting an approach for exploring the subspace of usercentric appliance computing, discussing the issues we have encountered in this problem space, and describing a framework that addresses the issues in this space. 1. DEFINING THE SPACE We begin the discussion of our work b...
